Hi, new to this forum and separation in marriage. Our situation is unique and before I spend tonnes of dollars on lawyers, I would love to have some idea of what
would be considered fair in my circumstances.
Met a guy with no money or property, only fines and debts 8 years ago. I had $60k at that time in the bank and paid for him to get out of debt and paid for his tax
fines too, also I paid for the wedding, our furniture, the house deposit and our cars. A year into the marriage he decided to go to uni so I took over all the house
duties and worked full time while he worked part time and went to uni for the next 5 years. He paid for some of his personal bills and the food during this time, I
paid the mortgage and everything else.
Two years ago he became a teacher, doing relief and contract work for the first year. This year he had a full time contract and started paying me $500per week
out of his pay towards our bills in general (and I paid for everything after that inc food). Now he has met someone else, wants to leave (has stopped paying me
anything but still living in my house) and wants money from me. He says he is entitled to half but will take $5k to $10k because he wants to set himself up. He
really contributed nothing to our relationship, not even housework. I would rather just see him leave but I don't want to loose my house later if he decides to take
me to court. What is he really entitled to? Does anyone know?
