Birth injuries are a common type of medical errors which can have long term impact on the child. In certain situations birth injuries may even cause the death of the infant. Birth injuries can occur in a verity of ways. For instance, improper use of delivery instruments, failure to monitor fetes, failure to perform a timely c-section, failure to respond to medical problems in the mother, failure to monitor the mother, inappropriate medications administered to the mother and failure to monitor the newborns are some of the reasons behind birth injuries. The most common types of birth injuries include Erb’s palsy, Untreated jaundice, infections, meconium aspiration, seizures, brachial plexux injuries, brain injuries, cerebral palsy, fractures, spasticity, paralysis, stillbirth and intracranial haemorrhage.
