Taxation law refers to the body of laws governing taxation. Tax law conists of a codified system of laws that describes government levies on economic transactions. Taxation in Australia is administered at the federal level by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
The law about income tax is contained in the Commonwealth Income Tax Assessment Act. Under the Constitution income tax can only be levied by the Commonwealth.
