Medical practitioners use different methods to diagnose conditions of their patients. One such method is called a differential diagnosis. A medical practitioner performing the different diagnosis will first make a list of possible medical conditions which could be the reason for the symptoms. Then he will conduct a series of tests and compare the test results with the list of conditions to rule out the conditions which are not compatible with the results. That way the medical practitioner may be able to determine the actual condition which caused the symptoms. However there can be mistakes during the process of diagnosis. For instance, the results of the tests can be inaccurate, causing the medical practitioner to reach an erroneous conclusion with regards to the disease. If the misdiagnosis results in harm or injury to the patient, the patient may be able to recover compensation from the relevant parties.
