I was just wondering where I stand with this situation? I was married in late 2009 and the marriage lasted 14 months and divorced a little over a month ago. My then wife moved out of my apartment and agreed that she did not want anything from me. She said she did not love me anymore. Prior to her moving out, I remortgaged and paid off her $35,000+ credit card and some loans for a brand new vehicle. When she left, she took most of the valuable items from my apartment. She has seen a lawyer and is demanding $70,000+ from me despite her not contributing anything to bills or the mortgage which I purchased 5 odd years before hand. She walked away debt free with a brand new car. I basically have nothing in my apartment and have significantly higher mortgage repayments due to my naivety. Since she left, she has borrowed $15,000+ and used it to mainly buy food at expensive restaurants and clothing. It feels a little like I was married for money and nothing more.
