An act or omission, done by a healthcare provider, while treating a patient can be considered as medical malpractice when such act or omission falls below the accepted standard of practice in the medical community and causes injury or death to the patient. When it becomes clear that there is causation between the death or injury and the medical malpractice, the healthcare provider will be liable to pay compensation to the injured party. According to World Health Organization, Australia is one of the countries where the highest rate of medical errors care recorded annually.
