What the woman has failed to address is not only how she ripped the ex wife's life apart presumably) but also his childrens life. I don't think she sounds guilty at all (she protest too much), I think she feels full of self pity - very aware (as she said) that she is now the age the wife was when he left. If he finds another gullible young female and leaves her - then she will know what she has done. But - as I say it is more like self pity than guilt to me.
As for the husband 'what's done is done', move forward - doesn't that just fit the pattern?
Cheating on a spouse seems to be the only crime for which their is no punishment - if you cheat and lie in business or steal in shops - and caught, you are tried and punished. I you do the much more personal crime of cheating on your spouse, lying to your children, 'stealing' someones husband then all that is said is 'what is done is done'. To my mind these crimes are equally bad - just look at the devastation left behind if you dare.
An interesting thread.
