Legal News & Updates

  • Saudi Arabia

We continue to advise reconsider your need to travel overall due the security situation in Saudi Arabia and the region. Military strikes and reprisal attacks have occurred in a number of locations in the Middle East including directed towards targets in Saudi Arabia, as well as Saudi shipping vessels in the Red Sea. As of July 2026, the Houthis (a military group in Yemen) have renewed their threat to attack Saudi Arabia. Since 13 July, the Houthis have launched air strikes against Abha International Airport, oil infrastructure and Saudi shipping vessels in the Red Sea. There is a risk of more attacks and escalation. Previously, missiles, drones and waterborne improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been launched into Saudi Arabia targeted at national infrastructure. Attacks have also been made on other locations including Riyadh and Jeddah, and along the Red Sea coast. The Houthis have also launched drones and missiles at Israel that have entered Saudi airspace. Do not travel to areas within 30 km of the border with Yemen, due to the ongoing armed conflict in Yemen and the risk of violent clashes and spillovers across the border. Avoid military bases and energy infrastructure. Prioritise your safety, monitor events and follow local advice. If strikes occur, move to an enclosed shelter. If these are not available, seek an inner room without windows. Falling debris from intercepted drones and missiles are also a risk. For updates on the security situation, safety guidance and emergency instructions, refer to official government sources (see 'Safety'). Military conflict in the region may result in widespread movement restrictions, airspace closures, flight cancellations and other travel disruptions. Filming and photographing critical infrastructure, military operations, drone launches and missile launches is strictly prohibited and can result in criminal prosecution. Don't take or share any recordings or videos. Terrorism is a threat, including in Saudi Arabia. Terrorist attacks could happen at any time or anywhere. Maintain a high level of security awareness. Avoid possible targets including venues that draw in foreigners, tourists or crowds where possible. If there's a security incident, follow the advice of local authorities (see 'Safety'). We advise: Reconsider your need to travel to Saudi Arabia overall due to the unpredictable security situation in Saudi Arabia and the region. Higher levels apply in some areas.
