The concept of negligence is used to provide compensation to those who are injured by negligent acts or omissions of others. Negligence is a type of tort and is a civil wrong. However, it can be used in criminal law as well. Negligence is usually concerned with unintentional acts or omissions. But in criminal law, intention of the person who is causing the harm is one of the two essential elements. In law of negligence, it is not therefore necessary to establish that the person responsible for the harm had any intention of causing it to the injured person. It will be sufficient to show that the person responsible for the harm failed to take steps which a reasonable person would take in the circumstances to prevent harm.
