When the supplier initiates the recall on their own volition, the Commonwealth minister must be given a written notice in the prescribed form. The form is available at the Australia Product Safety Recalls website. The notice should be sent to the minister within 48 hours of the recall. The reasons for the recall must be included in the form. For instance, the supplier may recall the consumer goods because the goods may injure someone, the goods do not comply with a safety standard or the goods are banned. In addition, if the goods are supplied to any other person, such persons should also be informed about the recall. The supplier should give them a notice as soon as practicable. The copy of such notice should also be sent to the Commonwealth Minister within 10 days of issue.
