A supplier may on their own initiative recall consumer goods. In certain situations the relevant minister may order the supplier to recall the goods. Suppliers are expected to recall the goods when they find that the goods may cause injury to consumers, when the goods do not comply with a safety standard and when the goods are banned. If the recall is initiated by the supplier, the suppler should notify the Commonwealth minister within 48 hours of recalling the consumer goods. If the recall is ordered by the minister, the minister should be satisfied that there is a risk posed by the good and the supplier is not prepared to recall the goods voluntarily.
