Medical expenses may include the expenses the injured person has to incur for treatment of his injuries which are caused in the accident. In most cases, medical expenses include hospital expenses, pharmaceutical expenses, doctor’s fees, attendant care expenses, respite care expenses and the like. The injured person does not need to wait until the claim is finalized to receive payments for his medical expenses, as the insurer pays such expenses on an “as incurred” basis. However, the medical expenses must be reasonable and necessary and must relate to the injuries caused in the accident. The accounts, bills and other documents must be provided to the insurer when the claim is made.
